GameStop slashes Pokémon TCG 30th anniversary prices after widespread outrage
After listing its Pokemon 30th anniversary products well above retail, then raising them further to $169.99 for an Elite Trainer Box (340% of the $49.99 MSRP), GameStop reversed course on July 10th and cut prices across the board. The ETB dropped to $99.99 and the Ultra Premium Collection fell from $600 to $399.99, still above retail but closer to typical market rates.
GameStop gave no official reason, though some employees speculated preorder volumes fell short of expectations. Its EB Games branch framed the cuts as an anti-scalper strategy, and customers who preordered at the old prices can get a refund or apply the difference elsewhere, with a two-per-item limit still in place.
